REAL LIFE IN AN OLD HOUSE
Welcome to How Felicity Finds
Family life • Thornton-le-Dale living • Victorian farmhouse restoration
Welcome to How Felicity Finds — a real and honest account of neurodivergent family life in the UK, told from the middle of a Grade II listed Victorian farmhouse renovation in the heart of rural North Yorkshire.
I’m Fay. I’m AuDHD, perimenopausal, mum to three boys who each navigate the world in their own individual way, and a squash/golf widow. Six months ago, we made a decision that felt equal parts brave and completely mad — we left behind the familiar and moved to Thornton-le-Dale, a village so beautiful it barely feels real, to restore a farmhouse that needed rather more love than the photos suggested.
This is where I document it all. The renovation wins and the expensive mistakes. The slower, quieter rhythm of village life. The reality of parenting neurodiverse kids while managing your own late diagnosis and a body going through perimenopause. And the finds — the things, places, and ideas that have genuinely made this chaotic, beautiful life a little easier to live.
It’s not always tidy. It’s not always Instagram-ready. But it’s real — and if you’re a woman in your forties who’s done pretending otherwise, I think you’ll feel at home here.
